The Last Full Week
Well here we are. This last full week will be the hardest week due to the amount of work that we will receive in the next few days for a last-minute boost to our grades. I'm not sure how to react to the upcoming summer. I mean, we've been in school for so long and have learned a lot, but we haven't had a lot of time to ourselves. How will you respond to all of the free time you are about to receive? I'm definitely looking forward to turning off my brain and not looking at the world critically for the next seven weeks. Honestly, through the whole school year, I haven't understood the meaning of looking through the world critically. I just look for what can be improved. I'm not a huge "why"question asker or thinker. Don't get me wrong, I do have my moments of brilliance, but I just don't see myself asking why to people all summer long.

I find it so intriguing that you label yourself as "not a huge "why"question asker or thinker" yet your previous blogpost was a passionate questioning. You did ask why. You in fact asked Why???!!!!!?!?!!!! or something like that. Matt I hate to break it to you but as much as you want a break from critical thought, I don't think you're ever going to stop now. And I don't think that's a bad thing.
I think this post is really cool...especially because I completely agree! This whole year has been work, work, work and there has not been one moment to stop and think about the world. This year has not only gone by extremely fast, but I've learned so much. It's definitely going to be weird to have so much free time, but I definitely think that you are QUITE the "why" question-asker!
I think that you give thinking critically an easy label. Thinking critically isn't just about answering why questions. A critical thinker doesn't spend his or her time going, "why is this red" or "why am I wearing shoes." It's a lot more than asking questions. You need to look into specific detail and make educated guesses based on what you see and what you know. I think you generalize things way to much. I also don't think you can just stop thinking critically. People who think critically don't just choose to think whenever and turn it on and off. From reading your blog posts I can tell you know what it means to think critically. I think a lot of the trait is second nature. You could be doing it and not even know. So I think it is a little presumtuous for you to go out and say you're going to turn your brain off and not think critically. From reading your most recent post it seems as if you don't want to think this way because it is hard or time consuming. Though I think you do it sub-consciously so it will be hard to stop. The point of this class is to end the school year with a different perspective and outlook on American culture and history. It seems like you have some "lofty" goals so...
Yea, I agree with KBolos. Could this be Mr. Bolos' long lost Greek twin, Kostos???
